There used to be a ColdFusion developer version that we could download to use for development.

Is that still available? if so, do you have a link?

update - I do see this page but confused which items to download for Mac Coldfusion developer version...

update : ok got it installed now it asks for this:

he standalone MySQL JDBC driver is no longer shipped with ColdFusion.
Please download it, put it in cf_root/lib folder and restart ColdFusion.

Q where exactly is this path: cf_root/lib folder and restart ColdFusion?

"cf_root" is the folder where you installed ColdFusion. It has a subfolder, "lib".
