[mysql] Extra Characters Added

New Here ,
Jul 25, 2006 Jul 25, 2006
I've just switched to mySQL from Access. When I add a new News Article to the site using my CMS extra characters are added to the beginning of the "longtext" columns. You can see it here after the published date.

Does anyone know how to stop this from happening.

I'm using CFMX6 and mySQL4

Thanks

How are you getting the data from the CMS to your textarea? Copy and paste? Those characters are either less than ASCII 32 or greater than ASCII 127. I'm guessing your CMS uses such characters as formatting/styling codes. A similar problem when you copy and paste from a Word document into a text area.

Its only happening with columns that are "longtext" it does not happen for columns with the data type varchar.

I've run some tests and I am 100% positive that the extra characters are being added by mySQL.

I hope I don't have to do that as I'd have to switch 100 cfupdates and cfinserts. I'm on shared hosting so I have to use mySQL 4 since that is all they offer at this time. I've sent the following link to my host with no response, I'm hoping it will fix it. I read in a post that it does.

Its a hotfix for cfupdate and cfinsert.

Thanks
