RDS Trouble

New Here ,
Jun 11, 2008 Jun 11, 2008
I originally posted this in "Getting Started", but had no replies, so I thought I would post here as well.

I have installed the plug-in from Adobe and from cfreport.org. I have done a manual install, followed the directions for both sites, read all available forums , but cannot get this to work. I am working my way through some paid for video tutorials, so I would like to be able to finish.

I can not get RDS to work, which is part of the ColdFusion Plug-in for Eclipse. The Eclipse version is 3.3.2. I have two machines, both Windows XP Pro SP2. I have checked firewall settings, they are both company machines, so I was able to grant exceptions to Eclipse and my localhost. I have checked all the settings on my local CF8 server. Obviously I run CFEclipse, and other plug-ins include SVN and Flex.

Although, I can probably do the tutorials and skip the RDS part, and still get something out of it. I would like to see if I can resolve this, plus , just came off of a month of bug hunting, so I'm in that mood. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

thanks,
Steve

Click Window > Preferences

Then click the arrow next to Adobe to expand it.

Now click on RDS Configuration.

Next click on the localhost and adjust your settings to reflect the server settings.

After you change the settings click Test Connection to see if it is working correctly.

Then click Apply and close the Preferences window and all should be good.

HI Ken,

Thanks for the reply , but I have done that. My local host should be 127.0.0.1, configured to port 8500, since that is where I browse for pages on my local CF server .... i.e. - http:// localhost:8500/webfolder/webpage.cfm. I thought perhaps my CF server is not hosted in 127.0.0.1, but there is no where I can find that in CF Admin. The other thing is that the plug-in shows up as ColdFusion in Windows/Prefs not Adobe. There has been talk of this working for some , not for others and the consensus was to wait until Eclipse 3.3 catches up, since this is a known issue. On the other hand, some have managed to get it working. Someone had suggested that I didn't have RDS configured when I installed CF8, but since I have access to the RDS password in CF admin, that I do indeed have it. So, any other thoughts? Thanks for the reply!

To check what IP is set to localhost open the hosts file in the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc folder in a text editor and it will
tell you.

Just curious, why did you not use IIS and just localhost when you installed ColdFusion?

Hi Ken,

I verified my localhost IP is in fact 127.0.0.1. To answer your IIS question, I am not really sure, but to say that , there were pretty specific instructions on the local CF install to follow for our team. I asked around ,and no one is sure. I can ask my director, who ,by the way, has successfully employed RDS w/ the CF plug-in (go figure). We don't use RDS here , but I just wanted to get it running to finish a tutorial series. Maybe if he has time, I can get him to take a look. So, thanks for help and maybe I can get back to you on the IIS thing.
