Set cfinput to required, based on another field's value

Hi~

I am trying to set the "required" attribute of a cfinput field dynamically, based on the value of a dropdown menu that is selected by the user. I have researched quite a bit, but all I can find is a solution for how to do this with a Flash form, not HTML. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
