Unix J2EE Weblogic install using Windows Dev files?

We have CF 8.0 J2EE Enterprise installs on Solaris (not sure how exactly they were originally installed).

A colleague is intending to use the files from a local Windows Developer 8.01 install to upgrade the J2EE Enterprise on Solaris. Is this a bad idea?

The files are the same.

It usually is a bad idea, but if you know what you are doing it doesn't
have to be. As always the question you need to ask yourself is whether
you have a good reason not to follow the regular installation / upgrade
instructions.

Jochem,

It's what my colleague decided to do because it was the easiest thing for him to do. I'm not sure exactly why other than he's in one group in Singapore and has CF on his PC and the production server is in Switzerland and is managed by another group whose role is to simply deploy this stuff onto Weblogic. They asked him for the files to deploy and this is what he provided to them. I questioned whether or not this was wise. They have subsequently installed this and it apparently works.

HOWEVER, my question more specifically is, "Is this Solaris/Weblogic installation not running at it's maximum performance level because some modules in the Windows deployment are different than the modules in the Solaris deployment?"

A simple answer of "Yes, there are differences" and "Yes, it's not running optimally" would suffice. I don't need to know what modules are different. A nice to know would be "and it affects performance when doing xxxxxxx"
