I've installed a developer edition of CF 6.1 on Windows XP
with Apache 2.2. For some reason, the browser (both IE and Firefox)
refuse to open the cfm files. They ask me to use a different
program or save it to the hard drive. This does not happen with cfm
files from the Web. I suppose this might really be a Windows
problem, but any ideas?

MNDan,
CFMX 6.1 on Apache 2.2/Windows is not supported. It is supported though on UNIX/Linux - (see official technote)
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=8001e97
If you still want to pursue this, here is a good guide from one of the bloggers out there -

Hope this helps.

MNDan, you're installing, so why don't you just move up to
the current version of Apache, i.e. Apache 2.2.
3.
