We are looking for a business partner to take over technical management of a commercial CF application that has been in production for 20 years, and has a small but loyal set of users.  The application is ScheduleFM, scheduling for facilities management.  Facility scheduling for large campus environments, with an integrated billing component, multiple calendars, dynamic graphics and several public interfaces.

If you are looking to go beyond a salaried job, or hourly consulting, and get ownership and equity in a business, while guiding technical development of the application, then we would like to talk with you.  We will be at the CF conference in Las Vegas on 11/16 and 11/17, so if you too will be at the conference, then let's arrange a meeting.  Otherwise, please email us your information and we will arrange a phone call to make introductions.

Interesting offer. Thanks for sharing it. You might help yourself and others by clarifying what the nature of work expected would be. For instance, is it that the code has not changed in years and you just need someone to babysit the server, basically (dealing with CF hangs, updates, etc)? Or is it that the code changes often, and someone might need to be prepared to offer 10-20 hours a week, modifying existing or adding new capabilities?

You see how very different the scenarios can be. So it just seems it may be helpful to offer at least some insight into the expectations. But I understand you may intentionally be leaving out the details to instead speak of it only directly to people. Your call. Just trying to help.

Charlie:

Thank you for those insights.  Yes, I agree that the scope of work can have a significant range of expectations, on both sides of a business relationship.  Here are some specifics to help with an evaluation:

- The code has continually evolved over those 20 years, with one primary architect and multiple CF developers.

- A recent renovation of the application moved the majority of the SQL code to database procedures and functions (MS SQL Server), so expertise in stored procedures would be needed.

- We have a ten plus year relationship with an ISP that manages our hardware, OS, DBs, web servers and CF servers.

Imagination, innovation and creativity are innate qualities that complement solid technical skills. Having the vision to see an opportunity as it stands now and in what it could be in the future is the essence of being an entrepreneur. Some people have it, and others don't.

Thanks for the clarifications. Hope it helps you and others.

(To be clear, I don't do development myself, only server troubleshooting consulting, and related things like installation, administration, configuration, updates, migration, security, tuning, and so on. Since you indicate that you're set for that sort of help, I wish you well finding others for the remainder.)
