Installed CF Builder 2018 but getting 127.0.0.1 refused to connect error

Recently installed CF Builder 2018 but cannot get to http://127.0.0.1:8600/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm - getting this:

This site can’t be reached

127.0.0.1 refused to connect.

I successfully pinged both 127.0.0.1 and localhost. Also tried disabling firewall to no avail. I'm logged in as Administrator. When I go to 127.0.0.1 or localhost I do get the IIS spalash screen. Any help appreciated!

My solution was as follows - necessary after reboot - on CF Builder 2018 start screen, select Window > Show View > CF Servers and then wight-click on defaultLocal and select Start Server.

On the ODBC service, I don't even show the CF 2018 ODBC Service as listed. Not installed?

For the port, try 8500 in place of 8600. Hence,  http://127.0.0.1:8500/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm -

Unforunately that doesn't work either - same result. But thanks for the suggestion. Any others?

Another idea.Since you mention IIS, did you configure ColdFusion to use IIS as web server? For example, did you run the Web Server Configuration Tool? (This is the tool C:\ColdFusion2018\cfusion\runtime\bin\wsconfig.exe)

If so, open IIS. In the lefthand panel, click on the site. In the righthand panel, click on Bindings. You should then see the port number. The default URL is usually  http://127.0.0.1 or  http://127.0.0.1:80

Toby, when you installed cfbuilder, do you recall if you let it choose to install cf WITHIN cf builder? If you did, THAT is what listens on 8600.

If you did, then you need to START that cf instance from with CF builder, using its Servers view. Use Windows>Show View to see how to make that view appear.

If you did NOT install it within cfb's installer, then if you install cf separately THAT would listen on port 8500.

Thanks! I have th running now, but when trying to set up an ODBC datasource (MS Access) I get the following: The "ColdFusion ODBC Server service is not running or has not been installed. You may also use the "MS Access with Unicode" driver to connect to MS Access datasources." Is there a fix for this? Thank you.

Hi tobym6130

I'm glad to hear you've solved the initial problem. Could you please share the solution with the forum?

About the ODBC Server? Is it running?

Thanks for sharing your solution.

About the ODBC business, it just might be that you hadn't installed it. It is a separate service.

Cannot find cfserver.exe after ColdFusion Builder 2018 install. Can it be downloaded/installed? Should I re-run the installation? During initial installation, there was no option to install//not install CFSeever.

Toby, there is no cfserver.exe. Can you share why you are looking for it?

As for an option to install cf during install of cfbuilder, there is indeed one, and it seems you took it. That's why you found it listed in the Servers view in cfb, as you indicated in your "answer" here (written a day or so after my first response, pointing to that as your solution).

As for the odbc service you also ask about here, that is NOT installed with cf within cf builder. You could install it (and other cf related services) separately, but let me press again: are you sure you really need it? What odbc database are you wanting to use? A jdbc driver will almost always be better.

As for adding cf-related services, you can find some (like installers for the add on and. Net svcs) on the cf downloads page, https://www.adobe.com/support/coldfusion/downloads.html. For the odbc services, see this blog post for the basic steps: https://christierney.com/2015/07/14/adding-coldfusion-11-odbc-services/.

But again make sure you really need it.. There may be extra tweaking needed, and some odbc things simply don't work any more, as it's 20 year old tech.

You're not alone. Failure to install or to start the ODBC service in new ColdFusion installations is an old problem. See for example

https://coldfusion.adobe.com/2019/10/cf2018-new-install-64bit-windows-error-odbc-service-not-running...
https://coldfusion.adobe.com/2019/03/cf-2018-odbc-server-wont-start-update-3-installed/

https://community.adobe.com/t5/coldfusion/coldfusion-11-odbc-service/td-p/6207226?page=1

The solutions offered there are complicated.

I would therefore suggest that you uninstall, then reinstall ColdFusion 2018During the installation you will be asked whether you wish to install the ODBC service alongside ColdFusion.
