MS SQL Server support

We are currently running Coldfusion MX7 with MS SQL Server 2008. We need to upgrade to SQL Server 2012 (as a minimum), but understand that is not compatible with MX7. We really should upgrade to a later version of Coldfusion too, but to minimise business impact and risk we are searching for a short term work around.

1. Are there are official drivers/plugins that can be provided to allow CF MX7 to work with SQL Server 2012?

2. If not, is there a way we get hold of an official copy of Coldfusion 10 as that will work with SQL Server 2012?

Wow, lots to consider. Much is possible but not all are equally wise.

Out of curiosity, why cf10 (which is also no longer supported) and not 11, 2016, or 2018? Also, your cf7 license would not work with cf10, nor could you obtain one from Adobe (who will now only sell a cf2018 license)  Or did you obtain one somehow otherwise?

And as for 7 and sql 2012, since cf8 is no longer supported, why worry about whether connection to SQL 2012 is "supported"? Have you simply tried it  it may just work.

But yes, running on cf7 (or anything older than 11) is risky for not having Adobe provided hotfixes and security updates. The same is true of cf10, if you were insistent to go that way.

And then there are indeed jvm issues and need to get that updated. And while only cf10 formally added support for Java 8, some have run java 8 with cf 9 and 8. I suspect it could work with cf7. I don't think any update to cf7 allowed Java 7, but it's really stretching memory and lost web pages to recall/know.

Finally  to save others pointing them out as other options: first, there is of course the free Lucee alternative that could work for you (Lucee.org), especially if it's price keeping you from moving up to the latest versions of cf. Second,  you can find old cf installers (back to 1.5) at the community-managed cfmlrepo.com.

And if you need direct help with any of the above, I can help beyond the above  (via fast and secure via remote shared desktop). More on rates, approach  and satisfaction guarantee at carehart.org/consulting.
