Hello together,

in my composition of After effects, there are different colors for the same kind of color "00A6BF".

The first object is made in after effects,

the second is made in Illustrator. Both have the same color key but they look different.

Is that a issue?

Thank you for your help.

Kind regards

Dennis

After Effects is RGB based, Illustrator might have a different RGB profile than After Effects and can even be CMYK based document color mode.  Need more info on you color settings in both apps in order to clarify the issue if there is one.

The one on the left is correct, assuming sRGB. That hex code will produce that color in sRGB.

What happens on the right is anybody's guess. Probably some unknown CMYK, and represented without proper color management. It's completely off the map by any standard and impossible to make sense of.

To expand on jdanek’s reply, Illustrator document’s have a single color mode (InDesign lets you mix objects with different color modes, but AI and PS force a single color mode). If you want to select accurate hex values the document mode as to be RGB with the After Effects profile assigned (File>Document Color Mode)

Here’s an Illustrator RGB document with sRGB assigned.

If the Document Color Mode is CMYK, you still have the option to pick RGB hex values, but they get converted to the document’s assigned CMYK profile values . So here the assignment is US SWOP and when I pick hex #00A6BF, it’s actually getting converted to 77|14|21 CMYK. Even though the Color Picker has HSB and RGB color fields, the picked color has to be CMYK.

If you move the CMYK doc over to After Effects, it would get converted to RGB, and the converted color would depend on how AE manages the US Web Coated SWOP values, and would not likely result in the intended hex color.
