I previously downloaded 2 paper profiles from Fotospeed and installed as recommended but having not been printing photos for some time I find they now don't appear in the popup (which appears to show just display profiles) when not using the managed by printer but "other" choice. Yet in looking in Color sync and profiles they appear to be there!
I have copied the paper profiles to all profile/color sync options but no joy!
I think there must have been an update to Big Sur as they did previously work! I have an IMac.
Good old Apple!!
Anyone help ?

OS 11.2 on, until 12.X has a bug that doesn't allow the profiles to show up. If you can upgrade to OS X 12.2.1, problem solved.

There is apparently a bug in Mac OSX Big Sur 11.6.2 in connection with ICC profile use / printing,
Some users have reported success after updating to Monterey, personally I'd be more likely to go back a version rather than jumping into a new OSX version soon after release.
Sadly this bug appears to still be present in 11.6.3, according to users here who have made that upgrade.
I hope this helps

I am running into the same problem with my custom printer profiles communicating to my Epson. Unfortunately I can't go forward to Monterey. My MacBook Pro is from 2014. What version do you suggest I reinstall? I appreciate finding this post. I had no idea what was going on.

I appreciate the link you provided me to downgrade. Do you know if this link secure? It looks like they charge money for the download. I've never had to downgrade my computer before. It looks like I have to do some magic by putting the 11.1 on a flash drive and reboot somehow. This is all new stuff to me. Way to go Apple with BigSur. Really messed my whole world up. Thanks for your help.

Some users have reported positive results in OSX Big Sur - with some problematic profiles being made usable after opening them with the ColorSync utility and “fixing” any errors found.
Another user here reported going back to Big Sur 11.6.1 and it works fine.
I hope this helps

Thanks for the suggestion and help. I am seeing now that I have access to my color profile in the "ColorSync" folder, but it is not listed in the utility itself when I open that. I'm kind of a noob here with digging around my computer, but I am thinking that might be a problem. Why would it not be listed in the utility, but show up in a folder?
If I can't fix the problem manually, I will go back a version. I'm currently running BigSur 11.6.4. The color profile I made a couple of days ago was done with an xrite i1 pro.
I appreciate the help.

If you double click the profile in the finder you should see it open in the Colorsync Utility where any issues will also be flagged up.
Profiles do need to placed in certain folders:
