Breeze.. port requirements... firewall

Hi all:

We just evaluated Breeze to see if could get it through a rather restricting firewall. We had no success. We kept getting a message on the users side that flash wasn't installed (which it was). Is this a port issue?

Thanks.

You can run a port check here: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_16466

Are you sure you have flash installed for the specific browser you're using? If you have it installed for IE, and you're using Firefox, it will show up as not having been installed and you will need to install it for Firefox.

Thanks for your follow up. You are with SAIC?... have you been able to get breeze to go through military base firewalls?

Anway this was the results:

RTMP Default Success
:RTMP 80 Failed
can you send me the screen snap
RTMP 443 Failed
RTMP 1935 Failed
HTTP Tunneling DEFAULT Success
HTTP TUnneling 80 Success

I am guess this is indicating certain ports cannot communicate through this firewall? Thanks.

Yes, it looks like it's a firewall issue. Breeze's default port is 1935, but can tunnel over 443 or 80. Either all 3 ports are blocked or there is packet filtering/shaping going on.

I don't know details, but the military does have Breeze/Connect installations up and running. We also have an installation up at the National Institutes of Health. When someone experiences a firewall issue, we ideally have them open 1935, 443 and 80 to our server IP addresses and that usually fixes the problem.

I dont think the connection to 433 or 80 is a problem. 1935 will be and I know they will not open the firewall.

Can 1935 be redirected through 443?

I have been able to get another big name conference tool to go through the firewall so I know this can be done.

Thanks.

RTMP 80 Failed
RTMP 443 Failed

If 1935 is open and the RTMP sequence is configured correctly on the server (the .ini file I believe), then yes, it will try to use 443 or 80 instead of 1935.

It looks to me like either 80 and 443 are blocked, or they are packet filtering (checking to make sure the packets are HTTP, which for Connect/Breeze, they are not).

ah.... i see. thanks so much for your help.

The person can surf the net, so I am assuming port 80 is open, so they must be packet filtering for non http. Does this make sense?

Thanks.

Hi,

Sometimes client-side restrictions prevent updating or installing FP. Enhanced security in IE or restrictions that prevent adding FP are common. Even when you have local admin privs, adding the FP can be probelmatic unless you first adjust browser settings. There are a couple of technotes that offer guidance:

FP test and update is here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/
FP troubleshooting steps are here: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_19166
