I am looking for a way to sell tickets to a lecture that I am going to conduct through adobe connect and wanted to know if there was a way to either do it through adobe connect or some other 3rd party software/plug-in to sell tickets and manage who gets access to the presentation.

You will need to work with a developer to integrate your web shopping cart with Adobe Connect through the API's http://www.adobe.com/devnet/adobeconnect.html

I work mostly with Brookwood to do this type of work.

The two solutions I would reccomend would be Connect Your Team, and ConferenceEdge. They both have their benefits and drawbacks, and I'd be happy to give you my thoughts on each.

Connect Your Team: http://www.cyourteam.com/

ConferenceEdge: http://www.conferenceedge.com/

We have used both tools and had good success with each. You can reach me at jorma[at]realeyesconnect.com if you want to set up a time to talk about them.
