Ubuntu 12 connection problems

Hi there,
My laptop (Ubuntu 12.10) can't connect to meetings.
On the test page (https://c.deic.dk/common/help/en/support/meeting_test.htm ) it always shows:
First step passes:
1. Your version of Flash Player is supported
After a looong time trying the next step fails:
2. Adobe Connect Connection Test
FAIL: Unable to connect.
The error report details shows:
"
Player Version: LNX 11,2,202,270
App-Server returned: code:ok, servers=rtmps://m1.c.deic.dk:443/_rtmp://localhost:8506/
ERROR: FMS Server did not return correctly!
"
I have tried this again and again for the last few months, both on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and then I upgraded to Ubuntu 12.10 to get i to work, but its still the same. I really NEED to get this to work now, as I need to do some remote teaching this monday.
Thanks in advance,

Here is an update: The test passes and it seems I can connect to a meeting in Google Chrome!
The Firefox where it doesent work is:
version 19.0
Build-identifikation: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux i686; rv:19.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/19.0
- Fil: libflashplayer.so
- Version:
- Shockwave Flash 11.2 r202
However, during the "Adobe Connect Add-in Test" it says its not installed.
When I click "Install Add-in" I'm redirected to a page that doesent exists !?!!
Meeting works fine, EXCEPT for one essential feature: I cannot share my screen!
It says Adobe Connect Version 9.0.1 on the meeting I've set up (https://c.deic.dk/r5fo1f89fqj/?launcher=false you are welcome to join).
Looking forward for some help, especially if the screen sharing problem can be solved.
Yours,

There is currently no add-in for Connect for Linux OS.
Adobe wrote:
Linux
- Ubuntu 10.04, 11.04; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6; OpenSuSE 11.3
- No Add-in support for Linux. Users on Linux can attend meetings in the browser.*
- Mozilla Firefox
- Adobe Flash Player 10.3
You can still join/host/participate in meetings through Chrome, but without the add-in you will not be able to share your screen.

uh oh.
Thanks for the reply, Jorma.
I was told that this software was cross-platform and I was assured that I could use it on Linux. The support pages for our provicer confirms this: http://deic.dk/drupal/node/286
Now, when I need Adobe Connect, it doesen't work.
My impression is that I need an Adobe Connect Server version 8.
Can you confirm this?
I have spoken with the responsible person in our institution and he says that the connect server was upgraded to Adobe Connect Server 9 in january.
Can anyone point me in the direction of where I can urgently buy/rent access to an Adobe Connect server that supports Linux ?
I need it for monday evening.
Thanks in advance,
Jacob Nordfalk

To be fair, Connect is supported on Linux in Chrome, there is just no Add-in support. I believe that an add-in for Linux is due to be released with the first Service Pack for Adobe Connect 9, so it will have full functionality in the future.
Do you, by chance, have a VM on your Linux computer that you could run Windows or Mac OS and then screen share the Linux functionality through that? That may be a stretch, but worth testing.
I'm not aware of any Connect 8 servers that would be available to rent access from, but someone here may have something that could help.

Thanks for the reply, Jorma.
Yes, to be fair, everything works, except showing what is on my screen.
Unfortunately, I need to do display slides as well as live demonstrations.
It seems our provider didn't know the implications of upgrading to version 9. At least their news page is abundant with news about improved Linux support, but there is no note at all about this problem. http://deic.dk/drupal/connect_nyheder

I really doubt your idea would work. Probably I could ask support for a Windows .iso and install Windows in VirtualBox, but this virtual instance wouldn't be able to access any of the my screen content on the Linux host.

Yeah, It's been a while since I've played with VM's but I recall being able to use VMWare or Parallels for Mac and it could run in a mode where you were using both Mac and the VM at the same time in the Mac desktop. Guess I was hoping that that could be done in Linux as well.
If you can work in Windows or Mac OS, then that would solve the problem for your upcoming session.

Hi there,
We ended up buying a framegrabber, and using a Google hangout (which works fine on Linux) as backup plan.
The framegrabber was connected to the VGA output of my laptop, streamed to another PC, and from there it was streamed to the students.
However, it's a clumsy solution with an extra PC, and several of my students also use Ubuntu, and of course they couldn't share their screen output.
So I'll be looking forward to an Ubuntu client where screen sharing works with Adobe Connect 9 (and I hope you don't make a version 10 in the meantime so it all starts over 🙂
Thank you for your help!
Jacob
