Random deletion of letters and extra spaces in text

Hi all,

I've just encountered a problem when saving a document, on reopening it random letters have been deleted and extra spaces have been added. It looks a bit like code! has anyone encountered this before and may have a solution?

What kind of document?

On Windows or Mac?

File corruptions can happen. It has not happened to me recently unless the app terminated unexpectedly (power outage) and the file was not properly saved & backed-up beforehand. 

Also missing fonts might pose problems if the document was created on another system platform.
