Can I sync to an external and use that external on different computers?

I am currently working remotely, but will soon work a few hours a week back in my office. I would like to avoid syncing thousands of files when I start up CC each time I go from home, back to the office and vice-versa (currently this happens to my coworkers that are already going in).

If I sync files to an external drive, could I just bring that to work with me, plug it into my work computer and avoid a long sync when I get there?

It seems to me, if the relative file paths are the same, I should be OK.
Is anyone else doing this?

i don't think that will work, but you could try it.

maybe you just want to disable syncing one (or more) of your computers?  if that's true, open the cc desktop app and click file > preferences > syncing > pause syncing.

that will stop file sync on that computer until (and unless) you re-start syncing in the file > preferences > syncing panel.
