Adobe digital editions shuts down unexpectedly when I try to add books onto kobo. How do I fix this?

I downloaded books from the public library onto the adobe digital editions but when I try to drag them to put them onto the kobo machine, adobe digital editions shuts down "unexpectedly"

please use latest Adobe Digital Editions version 4.0.3

This still doesn't work. I downloaded this version and the same thing is happening. It shuts down "unexpectedly" whenever I try to transfer the library book to the kobo.
