Books that were deleted come back (that is: in grey colour)

Probably an old topic .. found various advice on the internet, however, that does not work.

When starting op ADE, books that were removed / deleted earlier come back in the library in a grey colour. You cannot actually open them anymore. How can I avoid this? Thank you.

For windows go into Documents and find Adobe Digital Editions and delete the old books there.

Thank you, Wendy, I did that several times but the old books keep returning (in grey colour).

I even deleted ADE completely and reinstalled it, also deleted sync-files several times, then deleted each and everything file related to ADE and ultimately all books ... but none of these actions seems to solve this.
