can not open a digital edition .pdf file I purchased on my XP PC

Can not open a digital edition .pdf file I purchased on my XP PC. Running Windows 7 on a new PC. Downloaded latest version of the reader. When I click on the .pdf file it takes me to the Adobe Digital Editions web page. The file does nopt open.
