Hello!

I have read "all" the gazillion posts and pleas for help on this well known and fun error, and have tried to fix it based on the ideas provided, but no luck so far.

I have reinstalled, uninstallled, installed version 3, uninstalled and installed version 4.5 and latest patch. I have uninstalled, rebooted, and reinstalled and tried again.

I have checked that I have the latest from windows update.

All to no avail.

It used to work fine, I could open / download based on the acsm from my library. I have done so many times during the last year. And then one day it stopped working, and you get this dialogue each time you attempt to open a borrowed title:

> Connection Error detected.
> Digital Editions could not connect to the fulfillment server. Please make sure you are connected to the internet.

I also tried to re-borrow a title I previously borrewed, and tried to open it now - same error.

(I have not tried the certificate thing that someone proposed/linked to in a thread, that is probably the only suggestion I have not tried.)

Someone provided links to sample books, but they are not acsm.

Someone provided links to a page to check registration, but it no longer existed.

Any tips welcome! It is so frustrating that it just stops working all of a sudden!

So, I looked through all the links on the sample page and realized that in fact, there ARE acsm sample files there (i e Sherlock holmes and others).

(Sample page is this: https://www.adobe.com/de/solutions/ebook/digital-editions/sample-ebook-library.html )

Lo and behold, these work fine! Downloaded and opened fine, no issues.

I tried with my library again, and it still does not work.

My library is Malmö public library ("Biblioteken i Malmö") at https://malmo.elib.se/.
The provider they are using is Axiell Media AB (Lund, Sweden) or rather since last year (2023) Publizon A/S (Denmark), to which they sold.

(This is interesting, since the problems started rather recently, so one idea could be that the new administration have made a change that is causing some issue for some few users, like me.)

Question: So, what can the problem be, given that acsm are downloaded for some content but not for the loans?

Differences sample book vs library loans:

* Fulfillment server. I am not familiar with how acsm works, but I am guessing that the fulfillment server is the provider the library uses. So, not adobe.

* DRM. I guess the adobe sample page books provided are public domain, no DRM? The loans are DRM, atleast most part. (Library books probably all have it, regardless of if the work is public domain or not).

If someone reads this and has any ideas, happy to hear them!

Hi again! I later, after posting this, found the cause of the issue. Posting here for info.

Its the port. My machine no longer connects with port 8080, for some reason. Need to use another machine.

So, the fulfillment server that my library uses (via their supplier) uses port 8080 for the content server. Previously this caused no problems, but now it does. I also tried accessing the server on port 80, but it did not work, got another error.

So, I think I found the issue and it seems to be on my end. Guessing the IT department here closed port 8080 at some point, or something similar.

So, I guess I need to use another machine or perhaps set up a port forwarding proxy.
