I can't open a pdf format ebook purchased from elsevier with adobe digital editions. It says it may have been coded wrongly or corrupted. Is there anything I may have done wrong?

Has anyone had trouble opening e books with adobe digital editions? Mine is in pdf format. Would be grateful of any advice.
