License server errors

Running ADE 3.0 on Mac. Can't open book in library, previously opened—now I get

"Activation server error"

And can't get library book into ADE via ACSM file:

Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem:

E_ACT_NOT_READY

How do I get this *#!#%! software to function properly? Suggestions gratefully appreciated.
