Multiple (5) copies of same ebook in Adobe Digital Editions - solution?

• I purchased 1 (one) ebook form ebooks.com, but 5 copies of the same ebook got installed in Adobe Digital Editions 4.5.
• I cannot delete the 4 supplementary ebooks - they all come back even after removing all 5 copies.
• I uninstalled Adobe Digital Editions 4.5, removed everything "Adobe" from my PC, removed all references to the book title from my PC, even removed adobe digital editions from the registry - but when I reinstall Adobe Digital Editions 4.5, all 5 copies of the same ebook come back!
• I see many previous threads regarding this problem, but NO SOLUTION! I tried version 3.0 instead - but version 3.0 can't open the ebook (I get an error message).
• I can't live with the 5 copies of the same ebook, because my annotations would then be spread across the 5 copies of the ebook.
• IS THERE A SOLUTION FOR THIS PLEASE?
