I can download library books to my ADE but cannot move them into my KOBO.  I get a message that I have no permission to copy the book.  I de-authorized and re-authorized my ADE account and tried again to move the book from ADE to my KOBO with not success.  How do I resolve this problem?

I have been trying to transfer library books from ADE to my KOBO for 3 weeks now. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, authorized, deauthorized, done a factory reset of my KOBO, deleted the Adobe and Adept folders from HKEY_CURRENT_USER, I have even purchased a new KOBO thinking my old one must be defective!!! After all of this, I can only deduce that there is something wrong with ADE (yes, I tried the new version and the 3.0) Considering the context with Covid-19, it would be nice to be able to transfer a book on a reader easily and thereby keep busy. This is a golden opportunity for you Adobe. I  hope to hear from you. I am considering putting this Facebook so other users don't have to waste precious time with this defective software. Thank you.

I have resolved the problem with the help of a chat with Adobe.

It involved unauthorizing and then reauthorizing my KOBO with Adobe.

Thanks

I tried chatting with Adobe. They said that they could not help me and that I should go to the forums. I chatted with the people at Kobo and they were unable to help me. I have unauthorized and reauthorized dozens of times. I have cleared directories in regedit, I have done a factory reset of the Kobo. I uninstalled and reinstalled ADE 4, did the same with version 3.0.I have even gone so far as to buy a new Kobo thinking the problem could possibly be my old device. In these times of self isolation and social distancing, it would be nice if Adobe did something about the problem so people could have access to their public libraries.

With ADE 4.5.12 for Mac, I'm running into exactly the same issue with transfering a library book to my Kobo and have tried most of the same steps multiple times (short of buying a new Kobo) including factory reset. I think the problem is definitely with ADE not playing nice with the Kobo. Even when I Return the book, and remove the file from the ADE library AND delete it from the Digital Editions subfolder, the book reappears in the ADE Library every time I launch ADE. In fact, it appears twice, marked "author unknown" and "publisher unknown" and of course it can't be opened because it's been "Returned." That smells like a bug to me. In the past I have had to deauthorize/reauthorize ADE and the Kobo in order to borrow books, and then all has been well, but that doesn't work at all now.

I've been going to standardebooks.org and the Gutenberg Project websites to find royalty-free ebooks. But I guess for the most part I'll be paying money for ebooks while I'm "sheltering in place." Infuriating. I hope Rakuten/Kobo starts badgering Adobe about this.

I'm having the EXACT same problem as you described. Just about pulled out all my hair trying to fix this.

Well, I've decided to buy a Kindle and use the new Libby app that is available to read library books here in my city.

I'm quite disappointed in Kobo. I wonder if they are pushing users (purposefully) to purchase books rather than borrow them!

I have read the thread about the Kobo Touch and compatibility (lack of) with the latest ADE update when trying to read library books on the Kobo.  The error message says that the device is not authorized, and a black book cover shows up. I am looking to find out if I can download the ADE 3.0, as it seems to be about the same age as the Touch, and many owners of Touch found it worked (this problem seems to have been going on since 2016).

I thought that I had the issue corrected but no, I still cannot transfer my library books from my desktop to my KOBO.

However I can transfer my library books from my laptop to my KOBO.  I discovered in the KOBO forum that many people are having the same problem and it appears that ADE version 4.5 is the problem.  Sure enough my desktop has ADE v 4.5 and my laptop has ADE v 3.0.  Many people seem to be resolving their inability to transfer books to their KOBO by erasing ADE 4.5 and replacing it with ADE 3.0.  There appears to be something wrong with ADE v 4.5.
