Has anyone ever tried to sign up for an Adobe account, but somene else (you didn't know/wasn't you) had already signed up with your email address?

My hard drive died and now when I try to open Abode Protected Books or transfer them to my Kobo reader it says I need to authorize my ADE. When I try to authorize it tells me that ID is already used. Adobe support says the can't do anything to help me. Do you have any advise?

No one has used my email address except me. I changed my email address to one I created last year and it is used also. I don't know what to do now.
