what does E_ADEPT_XML_SYNTAX mean.. The downloaded acsm-file does not open in Adobe Digital Editions

downloaded Adobe Digital Editions 4, and registered computer, verified email and then downloaded e-book from retailer, but the acmsfile does not want to open.

This is very frustrating
