why can't I open downloads in digital x editions?

I have  adobe digital editions, but downloaded books will not open. It says format not recognized, what to do?

What books are you trying to read.

ADE will access .acsm files toi convert them to DRM .epub or .pdf,

or read DRM or non-DRM .epub or .pdf.

I don't think it will read anything else.

For non-DRM books try Calibre (http://calibre-ebook.com/)

and for others try whatever special reader it needs (eg Kindle reader for Amazon books)
