Why do I get internet can't connect when I try to download book to adobe digital edition

When I tried to download a book to adobe digital edition it says the internet is not connected when in fact it is.  We had the Geek Squad to try to fix on my computer but it is not my computer.  They said it has to do with adobe.  Does anyone have any suggestions?
