ADE “Not Responding”

I primarily use ADE as the default app for opening epubs upon their initial export from InDesign, in order to quickly check that they are exporting correctly. It has always functioned in this capacity with no problems. As of last week it will no longer open epubs: neither newly created epubs, nor previously existing epubs that were opened by ADE with no problems in the past. Instead, it just prompts “Not Responding” and I have to kill the process from the Task Manager to stop it.

ADE 4.5.1.  I have uninstalled ADE ad re-installed a fresh version—no help.

Windows 10.  Most recent updates.

Am I missing something basic?

Thank you.

Closed Digital Edition.

Rename the My Digital Edition Folder under your Documents to My Digital Edition.old.

Then start Digital Edition again and download a ebook.

I just did what you have suggested here.

The problem persists.

Well, I was just now able to open a 3rd party commerical epub, no problem.

I am unable to open epubs that I have exported from InDesign.

This includes old epubs I have exported from InDesign that always opened in ADE without any problem.

This includes new epubs exported from InDesign that have passed epub validation checking.

In this case would say that problem with the export file. Better you open a thead for InDesign. If other files work Digital Edition are fine.
