ADE won't recognize my Nook device

My goal is to download a library EPUB book and then transfer to my Nook. I am using the most current version of ADE as of April 2019 with a Barnes and Noble Nook. I am opening ADE before plugging the Nook into the USB port as recommended, and using Windows 10 on a PC, but the Nook device does not show up on ADE. I am able to download and read a library book on the PC, but neither dragging and dropping the file into the Nook internal storage or ADE on the Nook allows me to transfer the book. Help would be appreciated! I have rebooted the Nook, updated the ADE to current software, but still no luck.

I have the same problem. It does say to plug nook in first but that does not work either
