Adobe ID to login to Adobe Digital Editions

I have an existing Adobe ID created via Acrobat Reader. For a new training class, I have to Adobe Digital Editions; tried to login with my existing Adobe ID, but does not work. Questions

1) Adobe ID created in Reader is different from Digital Editions?

2) Do I really have to create a Adobe ID to access to a file in Digital Editions?

3) Any workarounds?
