can't download and ADE freezes

After upgrading to 4.5 and authorizing my computer, I cannot view or transfer to my Nook an epub file ebook. It won't open in my ADE library even though I've downloaded it and my ADE is authorized.

When I open ADE, it also does not show any of the default bookshelves, such as Borrowed, Recently Read, Recently Added, etc. It also seems to freeze up and instead of opening a book I've tried to download, it closes ADE and opens up my File Explorer instead.

I do have a lot of books in My Digital Editions folder. Should I delete those? Could the old books be causing the problem?

Does browser matter? I'm using Edge.
