Newest Update makes textbooks unreadable

Previous to this week's newest update to adobe digital editions, my textbook (ironically, a photoshop textbook) worked fine.  After the update, all pictures diagrams and background colors appear as grayscale pixelated static mixed with black bars or occasionally tiled grayscale fragments of the original image.  I have already uninstalled/reinstalled Digital Editions as well as the textbook, but neither of those options seems to work.  Is there anything I can do to resolve this issue?

Same problem with books borrowed from the Open Library - unreadable after the update. I can't understand why this is not being fixed.
