I purchased a new laptop that uses Windows 10 in S mode. I can only download apps from the Windows store. I would like to use Adobe Digital Editions but can't download it unless I opt out of Windows S (which I don't want to do at the moment). Any suggestions as to how to open acsm files using a product from Microsoft store? Or any other method?
I'm afraid you'll need to switch out of Windows S mode.
The whole point of s mode is to keep one from doing what your asking about.
Not sure why you wouldn't want to switch out of s mode.

The laptop I bought is a cheap HP Stream (Intel processor). Not sure if it will run smoothly if I reconfigure it out of S mode and I know you can't go back to S mode once you opt out. Have you heard of any problems once switched out of S mode?

As far as i know, switching out of S Mode only removes the software install restrictions.
Performance should remain the same.

Instead of trying to download Adobe, go to MicroSoft Store and download PDF X software instead. Assuming it's Microsoft's knock-off version of Adobe. Now I'm able to review and edit Adobe files, whereas before I could not review Adobe files. Hope this helps!
