I have the same problem, so I tried importing and exporting it in photoshop it kind of work the problem with my 3D.OBJ file is that I have multiple pieces to my 3D objects like levers and straps, by exporting it in photoshop it makes my multiple OBJ into one. Am I missing a step somewhere?

you don't have the same issue so I have branched this post
if you obj has multiple pieces then that is the problem and it has nothing to do with Dimension because the obj has been made wrong for decal work and has to be remade | repaired
option 1 = select the obj in Dimension and give it a new base material, then add you graphic as a fill or decal because the obj will only have one material now
option 2 = remake | repair the obj in a 3d maker like Photoshop, Blender or Maya... my goto is Photoshop and you merge all the materials into one then place your texture images and export the new 3d obj
which one works best will depend on the model and the look you are trying to get from it in Dimension
