It doesn’t appear that environment lighting is supported glTF exports. Perhaps I’m doing it wrong?

Steps to reproduce

  1. Create a new design in Dimension 3.3.
  2. Add a capsule to the scene.
  3. Apply a silver material.
  4. Go to Scene panel > Environment > Environment Light.
  5. Confirm there’s a light or apply a custom HDR image.
  6. File > Export > Scene.
  7. Select glTF.
  8. Export.

Expected

According to the EXT_lights_image_based glTF extension spec, Adobe Dimension currently supports glTF exports with this extension.

Saw

Previewing the glTF in Babylon, I don’t see the asset rendered with the expected environment light. Inspecting the glTF JSON, I see no such extension declaration.

correct

the file type allows for lights [as does Fbx as well] but the Dev team didn't put them in

as it stands your only 2 options are;

  • save the Dn file (which is a known cause of corruption when jumping across different builds}
  • or rebuild the lighting each time you move into a new software

Bummer. We’re working on a glTF modeling workflow that incorporates environment lighting. Sounds like it isn’t ready for prime time. Thanks anyway.

I think its more a case of using the right tool

Dimension is not designed for export lights and there by the wrong tool for those workflows... you can goto the uservoice forums [where the dev team hang out] and add your vote for exportable lights
