Hey all,

UPDATE image attached!!! Maybe this will help???  I managed to get a quick screenshot. It took 1 hour and 20 min to open and before crashing.  It's a VERY simple object/scene .DN file (they all are)   --- NOTICE THE CAMERAS when it finally opened???  In Dimension (versions before 4)  - every file opens perfectly! One camera / angle.

It appears that the newer/est versions of Dimensions have issues opening/importing around cameras/angles. Why else would the file open file in newest version have almost 40+ cameras/angles??? When there was only the main one in the originals.  Something isn't right! 😞

I still try the most current version and I'm still unable to use it.  No old .DN files open or import.  The system(s) - PLURAL - don't open them. I've tried on multiple machine with very decent graphics cards (FYI).

It baffles me and is incredibly frustrating!

Imagine maybe 2-3 years worth of dimension files/projects and renders that are officially useless with the newest version. There's no way I will start over and rebuild each and every file/object or scene. That's not fair and most importantly - it's nonsensical.

No - I'm not the only one with the issue(s) and that makes it worse.

In most cases? These .DN files are super basic - the scenes even!

I need to know someone is working on the issue(s).

I can easily revert to 3.4.11 and EVERY .DN file opens and is workable and perfect, so this is not on me.

I use Adobe. I only use Adobe since Dimension and Stager.  I'm pleading for any assistance!

I can send a file that opens perfectly in all versions prior and you can try it for yourself.... Pretty please - HELP! 🙂

Did you try to open file in previous version, export as any 3D file type and import into newest Dn version?

Hey Ares!

I think we're all friends and trying to contribute and help each other! and I appreciate you reaching out!

So - in that case :

#1 -- Why should we have to find workarounds for file formats that can only be created, opened and edited with Dimension?

If you export to let's say .OBJ - the object flattens - the decals/graphics (for example) are flattened/mats, and no longer editable (each or all) when opened in newer version. Additionally, you have to worry about resolution on the flatten .obj file, for example. You can't very well increase the object/scene/rez - when the object is exported at X size.

I just want to be able to open a previous .DN file and have it open... (which is why I added the "pretty please" 😉

The primary issue is - ALL objects and scenes open no problem in the older version. In the newer version, it appears Dimension doesn't properly import its own file format.... not at all/crashes/hangs.

It would be like - Photoshop all the sudden unable to open .PSDs from earlier versions and if/when they do open (after hour+) - there are 30 additional layers added.  That's not on me or the user, that's clearly an issue/bug - especially because you can clearly see the significant number of cameras added when it finally opens before crashing.

What changed?   I'm still trying some ideas - like taking everything out except the object - like cameras/lights or anything at all.  Doesn't seem to work yet.   I'm so exhausted on this....

You can find what kind of changes has been made in Dn 4 that can be a reason for that issue.
