UV Map application "there was a problem reading this file"

I am recieveing an error message ("there was a problem reading this file") when trying to apply a UV that has previously been generated from Dimension. Here is the process...

1. Model created in SketchUp (incredibly simple model made up of a few flat planes)

2. Import .skp directly into Dimension

3. Highlight all and "Generate UVs"

4. "Export UVs"

5. Open one of the resulting .PSD files in Photoshop

6. Simply turn on the "Texture Grid" layer and save

7. Apply, this just saved .PSD as an image to the "base Color" of it's respective part of the model.

8. Error as above.

I can fix this error by simply renaming the newly saved .PSD but I have to do this each and everytime I make a change.

 

Mac (up to date), Dimension 3.4.3

 

Any ideas?

sounds like a known Mac issue other Photoshop users have reported were the system doesn't allow images to be saved over themselves for security reasons... I'm unaware of any fix for it as the setting is from Apple

 

p.s, if it is this issue then try saving the changed Psd to a different folder... that should work around it and be faster than a rename

You need to open Ps file from Dn Base Color panel (Edit button). If you open Ps file from window explorer it will not be updated in Dn. May be this can be a reason.

Hi, this would likely be the solution but unfortunately the button (or the double click version) jusyt doesn't work for any of my team. All machines are up to date as is Dimension. The only thing to note is that we exclusively work from Google Drive but other than that no strange settings or firewalls. The button has never worked. Literally does nothing.

I am not shure but may be the reason can be not correct path to photoshop exe.

Google drive is for storage and not designed to be worked from directly i.e changing a folder at the same time it's being synced is going to block assess or corrupt the file... Offen both

We have no issues with any other files no matter the size and work across the entire gamut of Adobe and Microsoft suites.

Syncing happens in the background and doesn't affect working on a file, saving over a file, For all times (apart from the one button in Dimension possibly), it works seemlessly.

its easy enough to test just use a different folder for a day and see if you still get blocked
