Hi everyone,
I'm reaching out to you as I cannot seem to find an answer in any of the tutorials I have watched so far and I'm not able to do it by myself in Dimension.
What I'm trying to achieve is to have a cylinder on the scene that is translucent and 'fading out' towards top, similar to how it would look if you placed an opacity gradient mask in Photoshop.
Is this even possible to be done in Dimension?
I tried creating a png in Photoshop that fades to transparent and then add it as an image in Dimension, but it still shows the upper edges of the cylinder.
I was also trying to add a black to white gradient in translucence section like I would use a mask in PS, but it does not seem to be working 😕
I'm using Dimension to export the objects to Aero and I'd like to have a 'spot' on the floor that you could walk into but the one that you could see through and would not give you the feeling of walking into a glass column (that's why I need to use fadeout effect).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
3D opacity maps are only two colours: white = show and black = hind... there is no shade of gray
opacity maps are in all Nvidia standar mdl files which of course means the new Substance materials tend to not have them
when you want to use an opacity map on a 3D object you should first export the model (or just the UV map) so you can see where the model areas will line up with your texture files... as a tip I recommend adding a decal first so you can s

gradients are not a good idea in 3D because you tend to get a sharp line on your model
i had a look at your mock up and imo this effect should be done in post rendor i.e, just make a tube and fade it out a bit in Photoshop after will be the better workflow

Thanks a lot!
As it goes from Dimension to Aero, I was hoping gradients are possible, but well....
Maybe in the future updates 😉
