During our design process we need to apply or edit materials and images on several object in our design scene simultaneously. We can do that in several ways.

First we can use Selection Tool for selecting all similar object and edit them.

The Second way is selection of several objects and go to Object Menu and group them for creating a group from all Selected Objects. Than we and apply the same material or decals on that group.

In Adobe Dimension we can use the third way. It includes "Past as Instance" command that allows to create instances from the same object. That creates new "instances" from the original object which allows to edit materials or decals on one object that will reflect the same changes on the other "instances" of that object.

Here is how it works.

Create an object or place some assets from library into canvas.

Choose any material from Material Library and apply to that object

Select any image from Image Library and drop that image on object.

Select the new created object go to Edit menu and Copy that object. Or you can use Ctrl+C shortcut

Now activate Edit Menu and choose Past as Instance command or use Ctrl+Shift+V shortcut

Repeat the same command as many time as you want to create instances from your initial object

Select any object from created instances and edit or change material on that instance. This will change material properties on all instances that are created from the original object.

When you are working with images you can edit image properties and delete that image from one instance.

This will change image properties on all instances that are created from the original object.

This also allows to edit any properties of decal that will reflect on the other instances of that object.
