Mostly looking for confirmation here,
We are looking to push a 2019 upgrade through SCCM, but I'm questioning if an in place upgrade is possible. During initial testing with RUM I was hoping we would be able to push a batch file and upgrade from 2018 to 2019 that way, though it seems that RUM will only update the apps within 2018, and will not update to 2019. Is this correct? Would standing up an AUSST be the solution here? The only what I've found to do the upgrade is building an uninstall package that runs before the 2019 package we created off of the admin portal. The only potential problem we see with this is client machine's cache folder either not having enough space, or running out.
The 2018 and 2019 apps are entirely different products and install to different folders, so there is really no such thing as an "in place upgrade". Your choice is actually between keeping the old app and uninstalling it. Since users often find tech issues with new versions, give serious consideration to keeping the old version.
