Adobe CC: Stop Auto Update

I want to control when Adobe CC updates, so how can I turn off auto-update? I've been searching my account prefs and the genreal help section and cannot find the answer to this question. Thanks in advance for any help offered!

• Open Creative Cloud application
• Open preferences by clicking the gear icon on the top right of the window
• Go into the Apps section of the window that opens, there you have the option to disable auto updates.

Hi I also want to turn off auto update. I cannot find the "gear" that you have listed here. Can you please help me find it? When I click on "all apps" I do not see any gear? It says I am using creative cloud desktop? I just dont want updates happening in the middle of a project in case there are bugs or glitches. Thanks!

a2studio to add to Manan's response even if you turn off auto-updates, mandatory updates will still be installed.  The recently release of version 5.2.1.441 Creative Cloud desktop app is an example of a mandatory update.  You can find more information on how you can control the update process at https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/update-app.html.

Jeff Wright, Thanks for this additional information. I do have the Apps auto-update on off, so that's why I was surprised when the CC app was updating on its own. And I couldn't figure out how to stop it. Your email basically says that I cannot. That is a function that I do not like. I don't want software on my computer to decide when to go online, download and install software.

a2studio the mandatory updates are often necessary for you to continue accessing the services and other components that are utilized as a part of your Creative Cloud membership.

With an individual account, you can gain some level of control by turning off the option for the Creative Cloud desktop app to open at Start-up.  The moment that the Creative Cloud desktop app is opened, and an update is available, then it will fetch the update.

We do offer far more control of the update process with Creative Cloud for Team or Enterprise memberships.  These memberships are designed with the features necessary to use Adobe apps within an organization.  This includes the ability to create local installation files and push out updates at a time of your choosing.

Finally, please see https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/release-note/cc-release-notes.html which discusses the enhancements that have been implemented during updates for the Creative Cloud desktop app.

I've been trying to find a way to turn off auto-updating and found this thread to be useful. I've been running Creative Cloud on a PC system, first a Dell XPS with 24GB of RAM and Intel i-4770. I just upgraded to a new system with 32GB of RAM, i7-10700 and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti GPU. On both systems, the computer's performance will periodically be compromised, as if it's engaged in some heavy-duty processing. This will go on for 5-10 minutes. Then invariably, I will get a notification that Creative Cloud has just updated an app, and the computer returns to normal. This has happened periodically for months and always the same pattern: Serious but momentary performance issues followed by an update notification (even if I'm not actually running an Adobe app). It is extremely annoying. The performance issues include slow or interrupted streaming, and apps that momentarily hang. Now I know that I can just wait a few minutes for a notification that Illustrator or Photoshop or some other app has been updated. So I'll just have to stop CC from loading and do the updates manually.

I'm on an individual plan, and just spent 3 hours dealing with "automatic updates" that rendered photoshop useless and resulted in a missed deadline. Okay, turning off the desktop app....but I use adobe fonts all the time, so doesn't that mean I need to turn it on? Please understand...what might seem like "minor issues" to you are major issues for freelancers like myself. 

Please Adobe–give individuals some choice in this matter, and for god's sake, let us know when somethings about to update! I was cursing you to the gods a couple of hours ago–now I have to explain to my client that "something came up" and missed hanging out with my 92 year old dad this evening to boot.

Not being able to stop auto-updates is not good.  I have a one-year old desktop with 32 GB of RAM.  Everytime PS and Camera Raw updates, it slows my process down to unworkable.  In Camera raw, it takes about 30 seconds for any mod command to take effect, and then it takes another 30 seconds again to actually open the file in PS.  I have had Adobe take over my desktop to maximize my settings and it does not help.  CR 2018 works great for me and i want to keep it.  Every time a new version of CR updates, I have to re-install the 2018 version which is becoming annoying.  If I ever cannot re-install CR 2018, I will have to stop using CC.  I wish you could just buy the 2018 version and not do any updates.  Adobe please fix this issue.

HDImaging, Photoshop and Camera Raw updates are not examples of mandatory updates. As previously discussed you can use the settings listed in https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html to turn off auto-updates for Photoshop and Camera RAW.

I, too, would like to control when Creative Cloud updates. I don't want or need the excess 'functionality' that gets pushed on to my computer. And as others mentioned, it bogs the system down overall. Adobe has a global monopoly on design software and as customers we are viewed as a revenue source more than anything else. I don't have any other professional option but Creative Cloud.
