Adobe's Policy regarding installation, updates and behavior of their software has to be fixed

Hi,

During the last years, numerous reports have been uploaded about the way Adobe software is installed, is updated and behaves. Not only Adobe don't seem to even take these reports into accoubnt but obviously things are significantly getting worse. A short summary :

  • The various versions of Adobe CC Desktop have always been causing trouble on many systems. Failing updates or installations, impossibility to uninstall and reinstall without uninstalling other Adobe apps, unexplained crashes, etc. Now, not only updates made from CC Desktop are incredibly slow but paradoxically, they are consuming all the available network bandwidth. When updating software, you can't have any other network activity on your system when updating.

  • During the installation of apps like Photoshop or Bridge, a bunch of files are copied and spread over the whole system, you don't even know where and why. So, even a clean manual uninstallation is rarely possible. You have installed once a single Adobe app ? No luck. You'll never have a clean system again unless you reinstall Windows. The developer's of CC Desktop obviously consider they're at home on your system (and please don't tell me about https://creativecloud.uservoice.com/ ; it's just a black hole. No effect).

  • When running Adobe apps, you don't really know what's happening on your system. A lot of processes are launched which you don't know what they are for. These processes and services are happily consuming CPU time and are heavily communicating with Adobe servers (hosted by Amazon) even when no app is currently executing and no synchronization has been allowed. Not talking about what's going on when Photoshop or Lightroom are running. Here again, Adobe are at home on your system, not you. You don't know what they are doing and what information they are sending to their servers.

  • Installing new versions of apps doesn't cleanup files from the previous version that are no longer of any use. If Adobe apps on your system have a long history, be sure that a lot of orphaned files are consuming your disk space. Since you don't know which files can be safely deleted, you're stuck.

Well, Adobe CC looks like other applications that are now out of control (like Microsoft Office). Nobody (evn at Adobe) actually knows what is installed, what the processes launched you-don't-even-know-when are actually doing and if they are actually useful, which data are continuously sent to the Adobe servers, etc. You do not have the control on your system.

This has to be fixed. Adobe has to understand that we are not paying a subscription to allow them to do what they want on our systems without any consideration for our actual needs and resources. We need more simple installers. It should be possible to install or update any app by merely downloading and launching a standalone installer. We need clear information about what software is installed on our systems, what it does and how it can be cleanly uninstalled. We need clear information about what data are sent from our systems to their servers even when we are not using any cloud feature.

Finally, we need to take back control of our systems.

I don't have any problems receiving updates on my Win10 workstation.

Make sure your computer meets the minimum CPU, GPU, RAM & HD requirements. Most Creative Cloud apps work on:

  • Windows 10 versions 21H2, 21H1, 20H2, 2004, and 1909 (LTSB branches are not supported;)
  • macOS 12 (Monterey), macOS 11 (Big Sur), macOS 10.16 or 10.15 (Catalina).
