My applications, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, continue to install on the sync folder, clearly not wanted on my cloud. I tried switching folders, installed, uninstalled, multiple times, rebooted to refresh folder location, no dice. Anyone have any clue for a solution? I have the app folder to be C:/Program Files/Adobe but it continues to install on C:/Users/---/Creative Cloud Files. And yes, I make sure both are on the correct ones. I even created a new file, finished a new sync, tried to install again and AGAIN installed in the new Creative Cloud Files, after checking folder was C:/Program FIles/Adobe. Beyond frustrating.
I will try later on my home computer (I'm at work) to see if it's program related or computer related. For now, back to CC 2017...
Ok I have not heard of any recent errors with setting the installation location. Did you run all of the available uninstallers and then download and run the CC Cleaner Tool from Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems ? The CC Cleaner tool is designed to be run in conjunction with the uninstallers. If you used both then all settings should have reverted to the default location.

Abc_design what version of Windows are you installing on? What other Adobe applications are currently installed on this computer? Did the Creative Cloud applications ever install to the Program Files and Program Files(x86) folders?

I have Windows 10, I have CC Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Muse (all still 2017). I never got it to install on the Program Files folder, I had to switch back to 2017 since I have work to get done. I uninstalled the 2018 apps and installed 2017, went straight into Program Files without a problem so it suggests its a program problem.

Thanks for the update Abc_design. Can you please post a screen shot of the Install Location you have chosen within the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application? Information on how to post a screen shot can be found at FAQ: How do I capture and post a screen shot or video? .

Abc_design thank you for the screen shots!
I thought you said the applications were installing to the Creative Cloud Files folder? Your second screenshot is showing the folders for the Apps in the Program Files folder. Are the folders inside empty? What exactly is being installed to the Creative Cloud Files folder? Or are you posting screen shots from the work computer?

Yes, work computer, even though all these programs are here, I had updated the 2017 (inDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and they all updated into the Creative Cloud Files folder. I left Muse as 2017 and it continued to work in this folder but I couldn't get the other 3 programs to switch back to this folder (screenshot) so I reverted back. The 2014, 2015, 2015.5 folders are empty with maybe one or two files within but no programs/core files.

Do you have any other redirects set up on this installation of Windows Abc_design? What version of Windows are you installing on? Finally, to clarify, is it the work computer or home computer which is not installing to Program Files folder?

This is all on work computer, I'll have to wait until Saturday to run the CC Cleaner (too much work to do so can't sit around waiting for the programs) but I'll check out my home computer and see what it does. I couldn't find anyone else with this problem either...
I don't have any other redirects, its just Windows 10 and I did uninstall through the creative cloud manager app but I'll try the cleaner this weekend. Thanks for your help Jeff! I'll keep you posted.

Ok thanks Abc_design. Yes running the CC Cleaner, after the uninstallers, may make a difference.
I will look forward to your update Abc_design.

Hey Jeff, I just installed inDesign after these instructions:
How to: Resetting install location back to "Default Location..." (Windows 8)
I actually just deleted the whole installLocation...Program Files/ line and it still worked.
I also installed inDesign at home and it went straight to the Program Files/Adobe folder. I checked the install location under Preferences and it said Default Location. The one at work says C: Program Files/Adobe but doesn't give me the option for Default Location.
But this is hilarious, I just tried to update Illustrator and Photoshop the same way...bumped it back to the Creative Cloud Files folder...

Abc_design can you please clarify what files did you just delete? Also to confirm did you drag the files to the recycle bin and then empty the recycle bin?

I didn't delete any files, just the line within a file for the app InstallLocation. That only worked for inDesign though. I uninstalled all programs earlier today and finished installing inDesign and Illustrator successfully into the Program Files folder after running CC Cleaner...sucks I had to do that but it worked. Hooray! Thanks for your help and patience Jeff!

Hi Jeff,
I just wanted to mention that the same thing happened to me when I recently updated my CC. Had the shock of my life to see 85000+ files syncing so paused it at around 35000+ files! I'm on a mac running Sierra. It automatically moved all applications into my Synced files folder. After hunting for anyone else having the issue, I checked my Preferences on the Desktop app and sure enough it linked to my sync folder. I've changed it to my Applications folder and was easy enough to move the programs to the Application folder.
My desktop app though is now syncing the remaining 35000+ files... and putting those back in the sync folder 😕

I have this same problem. It is killing my home computer because it sinks many GB of data to it, filling its hard drive. I suppose it is also really dragging down my network. Out of desperation, I deleted them from the Creative Cloud Files (sync folder) on my home computer. This worked, but returning to work I realized it removed all the apps from my work computer. I don't have much time to fool around with it, but had to reinstall Photoshop. It, of course, went into the sync folder which has restarted the whole process.

I'm not sure about the "correct answer here." It seems like quite a hassle and might mess up the changes made to my registry to get around Premiere not launching. However, I just noticed there is an Adobe CC preference for the install location. I'm going to try changing that and see if it works. How come nobody has mentioned it on this thread? If I get a chance I'll report back on whether it worked (have to finish something in Photoshop before I can take time out to delete/reinstall it).

I did everything as suggested in this thread. It all worked and everything was fine. Now a week or so later I noticed that Adobe InDesign is in the Creative Cloud Files (CC Sync Folder). Why? I really don't want to mess with this any more. I wouldn't worry about it except that this PC version of InDesign will sync with my Mac Laptop and fill up its disk. Please figure this out Adobe.
