Creative Cloud Desktop fails. The usual "Taking too long" message, then ending with failure.

On Windows 10, latest version.
I have have had a subscription to the FULL Adobe Creative suite for years, that suddenly started acting up. The Desktop app will not start, the other Apps (Photoshop/Illustrator) themselves start fine, they claim I am logged in, and they are working. Except that depending on the status of the desktop/CCLibraries, at times Libraries are unavailable. But mostly the libraries are working, even though the Desktop in the end fail to start.

At random times/situations, the Desktop will suddenly get started (get past the use validation stage), and once into where it shows the app list, then work just fine until the next reboot. In all aspects.
It never manages to start on a reboot on its own, but after an hour of so twiddling manually with a variety of things (such as manually running Adobe Desktop Service with a "--waitForRegistration=false" option), it will suddenly start and work fine until next reboot.
But it takes a long time, and is very inconsistent. Timing has to be just right between running a new attempt of starting the desktop, with starting the "Adobe Desktop Service" manually. I have no idea if this is really what makes it start, of if the software is simply messing with me at this point.
If started at the wrong time, it just immediately exits, I assume because there is already a running service.
Irritating waste of time. I should be USING the apps, not trying to debug them every day.

When the Desktop fails to start, it consistently goes through the typical "Creative Cloud is taking longer than usual to load" message and eventually the final "Quit or Repair" choice".

I have over time been through ALL the usual suggestions from Adobe Help pages, and the Adobe forum, such as deinstalling and reinstalling Creative Cloud Desktop, removing a variety of OOBE information/directories, Removing both the desktop alone using the downloadable Uninstall tool, cleaning off both the desktop alone and ALL the apps reming through the Adobe Cleanup tool, and others suggestions. Many times.

Where I am at now.

This morning I again removed ALL of Adobe software from my system,ran the AdobeCreativeCloudCleanerTool removing EVERYTHING, manually deinstalled the Acrobat DC install that still lingers separately, manually deleted every remnant of Adobe stuff under both of the Program Files directories, and under AppData. No sign of any Adobe product anywhere.

After a couple of reboots, verifying everything clean, I then reinstalled a fresh Adobe Creative Desktop. With NO OTHER Adobe apps installed so far.
After the Creative_Cloud_Setup process completed, the Desktop sprang up. Went through the account confirmation/login, and directly into the desktop, ready to start downloading Apps.
Everything looked good.

After a while, I started with a reboot (no app installs), since it always fails after a reboot.

As I unfortunately expected, it went right back to the usual problem after the reboot.

The Creative Desktop is now still installed alone, with no other Adobe Apps on the system, and it still fails. Fails to start on reboot, fails to start when called manually, ...

The ACC.log consistently show the same failure scenario.

The short story:

- GetUserProfileXml: No access token present. User not signed in.

ADCS goes into
- executeStateMachine(): state loop: Workflow: INIT, State: WAIT_FOR_SIGNIN

then waits with a 30 second timeout set.

- executeStateMachine(): waiting for SignInComplete

ACCC POSTs an ACCC_BROWSER_STATUS event of ACCC_BROWSER_LOAD_ERROR.

Then 30 seconds later the timeout expire, and CCD reports

- LoadTimeLogs: ADS seems to be hanged. No response upon pinging.. ADS/Vulcan issue...Killing ADS & Vulcan
- LoadTimeLogs : PingMissCount crosses pingMissThreshold. Launching ADS Service Executable
- PingMiss more than threshold. Looks like ADS is crashing continuously
- No point in launching ADS again. Showing corruption dialog

I would assume that at some point in that scenario maybe there should have been a popup or screen with a Login, but no such thing ever happens. It fails to find credentials and fails to ask for any login.

So, ADS simply hangs around until its master realizes that there is still no login, and kills it and the IPCBroker.

The cases where Creative Desktop actually manage to pop up, it usually do so without any login process at all, which I assume means that it somehow found existing valid credentials, and ran right past this whole failing stage.

As I mentioned, at this point there are NO other Adobe software on my system but Creative Desktop, which of course mean that I cannot use my many expensive paid apps at all, until this is fixed.
But with no other apps but the desktop, now is an opportune time for someone to to debug this issue.

Since Adobe have created a whole universe of fancy apps, now all sitting in a big circle with the central app Creative Cloud Desktop pulling strings, it behooves that central app to run absolutely flawless. 🙂
Failure to run is not an option really, as it impacts the whole universe of Adobe Apps and functionality.

Not a reply actually

Simply want to say that I am in exactly the same situation. For a long time now!

I have read a myriad of posts, a myriad of Adobe help pages and tons of advice by non-Adobe websites.

Nothing, But nothing has helped so far.

I would say that I am entitled to these updates exactly when they become available!

I can download lots of non-Adobe stuff, including the recent Windows 10 update without any problem whatsoever!

Come on, guys. Sort this out for good now. There is quite a big crowd with the same problem!

Yeah.. I'd say that this "new" version 5.0.x version of Creative Desktop so far seem an abject failure to me so far.
The old setup worked just fine for years with the original (less fancy) Desktop (a replacement for the old Application Manager). Since Desktop was redesigned, I have seen constant trouble getting it running.

It works IF you can get it to start. But software that cannot consistently even start up (and cannot start at all on it's own after a reboot) is purely a negative. No matter how "pretty" it is. I really hate it, when I have to spend MY time debugging middleware software that should just be acting invisibly in the background.

No one "rents" Adobe software to spend their time fighting the Desktop app. Prettying that up was a exercise adding no value to users. We pay good money to use the app universe surrounding it. No one would pay a dime for the Desktop app itself, which at this point seems merely in the way of getting anything done.

The account I support is also experiencing the same issues with Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app. I found a simple workaround that appears to resolve the issue 100% of the time (so far), but I am still working with Adobe to determine why it is even needed to get the CCDA to work properly.

In Windows, add the below path to your system path statement/variable:
- "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe Desktop Common\CEF"
Reboot
Start Creative Cloud

If I find out any other fixes or reasons I will post back.

It would make sense, if adding CEF to the PATH would have an impact, since CEF seems to be significantly (if not totally) guilty in the failure.

Unfortunately, this made NO difference to startup in my testing.
If this was a fix, my Adobe Desktop should suddenly have started up on reboot. Something it has been unable to do since about Sept/Oct 2019 when the foolish Version 5.x of the desktop was released. It still cannot start. Automatically or manually after login.
I even tried to add the directory to the user path as well (although that should make no difference with it already now being in the system PATH). Still no luck.

My desktop app only starts at seemingly random times, NEVER starts on its own on login. It can only be started (with a maybe 20-30% chance) by clicking Help -> Updates in Photoshop, which is now only a call to the desktop.
At odd times, it suddenly pops up when called that way. Or it fails the usual way. Its a gamble every time, but that is the only way I have been able to get app updates since Version 5 was released.

Whomever decided that a DESKTOP running app should be reduced to act like simply a packaged browser interface to this web-page (https://creativecloud.adobe.com/apps/all/desktop) messed up royally.
Valiant effort to save development costs maybe, but an abject failure.

I'd say to Adobe. Please stop pretending like my very large desktop system should be interfaced like a mobile device.
I guarantee, it is NOT one. Would need a fork-lift to move it, its 30 HDs, 3 connected RAID storage units, and 4 monitors. 🙂
