You do not transfer programs, you do a new install

When you have a subscription
-sign in to your account with your ID and password

Hi
So to confirm what I need to do. I go to this link and install Lightroom 6
as I bought this outright onto my HP laptop. How do I then get the photos
I have created in my lightroom 6 that is on my Mac?

Hi
Thanks for this but I am having trouble in what to do. I've got LR 6 on my
HP laptop. Now I'm trying to follow the instructions from the link you sent
but I'm stumped as it is not clear what I have to do. I dont know if all
of the essentials are backed up—the catalogs, photos, preferences, presets,
profiles, defaults, plug-ins and any other related files.

When I get out of my LR6 on my mac it automatically asked to back up. Which
I have just done again. and I have this file "6Adobe
Lightroom.app.lrcat.zip"

So I don't know if this is all I need, does this file include the following

1. The Catalog
<>
2. The Previews
<>
3. The Catalog Backups
<>
4. The Photos
<>
5. Your Presets & Templates
<>
6. Settings shared with Camera Raw
<>
7. Plug-ins you’ve installed
<>
8. Your Lightroom Serial Number
<>
9. Your Preferences
<>

Cheers

If you bought it outright for the Mac you probably have no right to run it on Windows. You probably need to re-buy all your software. However, Lightroom 6 is no longer available for purchase. You would need to start a subscription.

Good point. Unlike the Creative Suite, this was thankfully not an issue with Lightroom.

Lightroom v1 to v6 perpetual version licenses were multi-platform so you can use the same serial number on Mac and Windows. Just need the appropriate installer for the operating system.

Hi
Yes I've now got Lightroom 6 on my new laptop.
However, I'm not able to transfer the files from Mac to HP. The
instructions are not clear enough for me to understand.

Your help would be appreciated

The instructions given by the Lightroom Queen are very precise and detailed.

What specifically are you having trouble with?

Hi

It says to check that I need to make sure that all of the essentials are backed up—the catalogs, photos, preferences, presets, profiles, defaults, plug-ins and any other related files. How do I know if they are all backed up.  When I get out of my LR6 on my Mac it asks to back up so does that back up all those files mentioned?

Im not finding Lightroom Queen as precise or detailed as you say.  I believe you have to have a bit of knowledge and I don't have a lot.

So I'd appreciate your help please

There's an exhaustive list here:

https://www.lightroomqueen.com/backup-lightroom-files/

Copy those to an external hard drive and you're safe.

As I have said when I get out of LR6 it automatically backs up. So when it does back up are all those files in this back up? If not, where do I find these files on my Mac? So do I copy across the LR6 file that automatically backs up along with these files you have sent a link for?  If I do I just need to know where to find them to save to a portable hard drive so I can paste them into my new lap top.  What file on my laptop do I paste them to please?

Forget about "Backups" for the moment! Backups were suggested for the case that problems arise with the move to the other computer.

You NEED three major components-

1) Lightroom v6.14 installed on the new computer.

2) Your Master Catalog file (xxx.LRCAT) copied from the old computer.

3) ALL YOUR PHOTO FILES- Copied from the old computer and kept in exactly the same Folder hierarchy (Folder / Sub-Folders / Files.)

Then there are other incidentals like Presets that would need to be copied- Refer to the link Move Lightroom to a new computer? | The Lightroom Queen for these details.

You would 'Open' the Catalog in the new system by a [Double-Click] on the Catalog.LRCAT file. You may then also have to re-link the folders if they show as missing. Again all explained in the Lightroom-Queen link.

Regards. My System: Lightroom-Classic 13.2 Photoshop 25.5, ACR 16.2, Lightroom 7.2, Lr-iOS 9.0.1, Bridge 14.0.2, Windows-11.
