I have 1991 folders containing 1179 files of the following type on my Windows 8.1 system:
C:\Users\name\AppData\Local\Temp\{5B9C2573-020F-4683-8869-4C421CBE3441} ...the file name varies.
Why? Can I delete them to free up room on my SSD?
Nothing in that name indicates Adobe... You should ask Microsoft
Go to the Search bar at the top of http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/default.aspx to find an article
The TEMP folder is used by all apps, and by Windows, for temporary files, and everything in it can be deleted after a reboot or if it is old. The Windows DISK CLEANUP utility will do this for you. https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/17421/windows-free-up-drive-space

I'm sorry but if I open one of the files, there are repeated references to Adobe such as (in pa)rt:
<platforms><platform id="win64"><languageSet productCode="adobeCode_NonRibs" name="LS20" installSize="0" packageCode="{AEFT-17.0.6-64-ADBEADBEADBEADBEADBEA}" buildGuid="41e35c83-e24d-43d0-a66e-c92a20b48592" packageType="hdPackage" baseVersion="17.0" productVersion="17.0.6.35" uwpProduct="false"><locales><locale name="ru_RU" leid="V7{}AfterEffects-170-Win-GM" entitled="false"><custom-data><custom-entry key="tutorialsPage"><value>http://www.adobe.com/go/after-effects-tutorials_ru</value></custom-entry></custom-data></locale><loc... name="en_GB" leid="V7{}AfterEffects-170-Win-GM" entitled="false"><custom-data><custom-entry key="tutorialsPage"><value>http://www.adobe.com/go/after-effects-tutorials</value

Unfortunately, when I click on the link you give, it takes me to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/ I suppose may be the same but any searches I do lead to about 830,000 threads from which to choose, almost all of which are marked as Unanswered, and while there are replies, almost none are marked as containing the solution. For some strange reason, I thought that Adobe might know what files they place on subscriber's computers.
