There are four available plans: Individuals, Business, Students and teachers, Schools and universities. I am neither a teacher nor a student. Are faculty members like me eligible for a Students and teachers subscription?

yes, you're eligible for an education (student, teacher, staff) license and that's what you  want to pursue, https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/education-faq.html

schools, universites and departments are programs for groups of people.  ie, more than one license.Education | Adobe Buying Programs

(individual license is available too, but it's more expensive and business/team/enterprise licenses are for groups of people.)

The last answer gave good information.

I'll just add some advice to check with the IT department or at least your supervisor about current Adobe relationships with the university. The university may have a site licence that includes all staff.
