I purchased lightroom 5 about 8 years ago but my last computer crashed and the hard drive was lost - I tried downloading it on my new computer with the disc and for a week it worked but now it does not and the code is invalid - Any idea how to get it up and running on my new computer?

What has been changed on your system before the error occour?

the old computer crashed 

when I downloaded the disc it worked but it made me put the code in every time 

then it told me I had 1 day left as a trial - was confused why it said that - the next day I enter the code and nothing happens- lightroom will not open

Try deactivating the software, rebooting your computer, and then reactivating LR:

Do you have a valid serial number for that version of LR?
