Downloaded and installed (twice), clicked ok to update LR 5 catalog (don't find a LR 6 cat however) but splash screen won't go away and program wont run. Blue spinning circle on forever, task manager says Not Responding.
Logged out of adobe and back in, no help.
I downloaded and install Creative Cloud and now Lightroom 6 works, apparently it is looking for it on initial startup...................how are we suppose to know?

restart your computer.
open your cc desktop app.
what do you see?
the spinning wheel?
if yes, App doesn't open | Progress wheel spins continually
if no, does it show the lr 6 is up to date?

‌I don't have cc desktop app. This is "perpetual", independent of cc, Lightroom 6.

I have the same problem, I have Lightroom 5.7 without CC and I downloaded LR 6 upgrade, just downloaded today, installed and splash screen will not clear and program doesn't respond. Uninstalled twice and same issue, unable to run. I still have 5.7 installed and I can use it.

The above comment made me look at Programs in Control Panel, and I found that I DID have Adobe CC App installed. I never subscribed to any CC product, but the Adobe website strongly directs you to install it. I remember that I did install it months ago just trying to navigate the Adobe website to check it out. Bob C, do you have CC App installed? I wonder if that could have interfered with standalone LR 6.
I removed CC App, but it has not helped the LR 6 issue! I tried restarting computer, signing out of and into Adobe with no improvement. No help from Adobe available, apparently. They are happy to take your money on Saturday morning, but not interested in providing support.

Bob,
So, you download the Creative Cloud, so you can use Lightroom 6 AND AVOID the Creative Cloud...Who would have thunk it???
Thanks very much for posting your solution!!! I owe you a drink. Where do you live (I'm in CT)

Unfortunately I live in Maryland, but I will have a drink on you tonight, sometimes it is the little things.

but you have to buy CC at least for a trial and I already have LR 6 without the CC. How would that work?
Thanks

Debby,
The cc app, or whatever it is precisely, is free. I view it as the gateway
to the Adobe software, either LR 6, which you and I bought for forever
access, or LR CC, which you rent, but you need the CC App to make EITHER
ONE run. Even if by some quirk or mistake, you get LR CC, it's a FREE 30
trial. I have had no problem since downloading and running the C C app.
LET ME KNOW if you got this direct email.

Hi
Adobe solved my problem mainly by updating THE ADOBE APPLICATIONS MANAGER!
It worked and LR 6 Opens and Closes properly. So pass this along.
Thank you

Jan 2 2023. Same issue here. Splash screen and fell over every time with an exception error. Clicked on Adobe Applications Manager (which I have never used that I am aware of) which updated itself, and LR6 in some way. It told me I was now logged out of CC (which I never use) and LR6 now works again....

No problem now. The only thing I did in the last week was change the motherboard. I don't know what actually triggered the problem. I think the Adobe Applications Manager recently downloaded for some reason, or changed. It is not shown as a recent download in my system. As usual. Not logical!

any significant hardware change requires a re-licensing of adobe software.

The re-licensing was not the issue. That was quickly resolved. My OP highlights the residual issue of LR6 crashing after the splash screen and I was confirming for the benefit of others that the Adobe Application Manager was the issue (as highlighted by someone else). I felt it was pretty self-explanatory. I deeemed it helpful for anyone else experiencing the same issue.

Go to Adobe website for Lightroom. You cannot avoid being asked to download CC App. Do it, and Lightroom should work. (did for me and Bob)
CC is like stepping in dog poop: can't get rid of it.

I report same thing worked for me.
LR6 disk only (not CC) version stops responding at splash screen.
Tried renaming SLCache and SLStore folders as recommended by Adobe, that doesn't work.
Downloaded CC App -- for some reason it says LR CC is installed and suggests updating it -- I did nothing further with CC App, opened LR 6 normally, then closed CC App.
Very strange, and I have no idea why it started doing this. Humbling to note that whenever Adobe finds it convenient they can deny access to "my" catalog and "my" LR install in this manner. I was hoping to avoid that by going with the disk rather than cloud subscription. Presumably they'll use this approach someday to migrate me to their cloud service -- or else.

Indeed odd. Worked fine for about 5 months until this week when it hung indefinitely on the splashscreen. Installing Adobe Application Manager resolved the issue, even though I do not use the CC version.
